Shettima signs Borno’s N144.74 billion budget into law.

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has signed the N144.74 billion budget passed by the House of Assembly into law, though with a 25 percent increase.

Poverty alleviation, works, health, land and survey, Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) to improve the living conditions of the people necessitated the N18.91 billion increase.

In the earlier N125.83 billion budget proposal, capital projects got N62 billion, while recurrent expenditure took N63.83 billion.

The governor said the piece of legislation was passed within a short period for assent before implementation to raise people’s standard of living.

“I urged the legislators to maintain the cordial working relationship between the legislature and executive to the incoming administration,” he said.

Speaker of the House, Abdulkarim Lawan, put the budget performance for last year at 85 percent.

According to him, the increased performance was recorded in the health, education and agriculture sectors.
