Ezekwesili pledges to rescue Nigeria as youth group urge candidates against shunning debate.
Presidential Candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Obiageli Ezekwesili, has promised to deploy her experience to rescue Nigeria from its socio-economic and security challenges if voted into office.
Explaining that the nation is stagnated economically because of incompetent leadership, the former minister of education said she has what it takes to fix the complex challenges.
She lamented the socio-economic and security challenges bedeviling the land, insisting that the country needed to be rescued.
The presidential hopeful spoke to journalists in Kaduna shortly after addressing women, youths, pupils and people living with disabilities (PWDs) as she flagged off her presidential campaign in the state.
She also addressed hundreds of traders at the Kaduna Central Market, urging them to vote out bad leaders to save the country.
According to her, Nigeria had no reason to be a failed state, adding that it is high time people of good conscience rescued the country.
“When you are tired of mediocrity, the only person who you can think of is Oby Ezekwesili who is offering herself to lead.
“We have lacked quality leadership in Nigeria. It doesn’t matter that all those that have governed us are men. It doesn’t make any difference in the quality of life of a Nigerian person.”
“We cannot afford to have many more millions of Nigerians to join the more than 87 million that are already poor,” she said.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Youth Decide (NYD) has called on candidates seeking political offices not to shun its debate, as it is a medium for them to advance their manifestoes.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday in Abuja, president of the pro-democracy group, Uche Paul, invited presidential candidates to participate in its debate on January 27.
The group, which called for more participation of youths in politics, said Nigerian youths would only achieve their leadership ambition under good governance.
“Our mission is to positively influence the election that will bring the true leaders Nigerians have been yearning for. These leaders will build Nigeria to become the most desirable country in the world by 2025, and NYD has created this platform to ensure this.”
He added that NYD had set up mentorship programmes and workshops to promote brilliant minds in all facets of life and prepare them for leadership roles.
