Don’t be distracted by the opposition, Buhari tells campaign team.
President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Team not to allow antics of the opposition to distract them in its bid to ensure his re-election during the February 16 presidential poll.
He gave the advice yesterday during the inauguration of the Women and Youth Presidential Campaign Team, which named his wife, Aisha as the chairperson at the Old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
While urging the campaign team to double their efforts to achieve victory for the party during the general election, Buhari also tasked members to employ a door-to-door strategy to remind the electorate why his administration should be given a second chance to complete its agenda for the country.
“The Women and Youth Presidential Campaign Team was constituted to support the Presidential Campaign Council, which I chair. This shows the importance we attach to the role of women and youths, as the backbone of the Nigerian electorate.
“As such, they should be the drivers of our campaign. More so, they are the major beneficiaries of our social investment programmes.
“Our dream is to sustain change so that all systemic distortions can be corrected and we can enjoy the fruits of being Nigerians under the banner of freedom. It is also our hope that our unborn children will inherit a better nation,” he said
Speaking, Aisha noted that the team came about to complement the work of the recently constituted Presidential Campaign Council.
Earlier, Director, Strategic Communications of APC Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, said Nigerians have seen the difference between President Buhari’s administration and past Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governments.
Keyamo, who represented the Director General of the Campaign Council, Rotimi Amaechi, stated that the opposition party was suffocating because it does not have access to the national treasury.
Responding, Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, who is Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT), Buhari Support Organisation (BSO), urged party members to engage in a door-to-door campaign to let Nigerians know what the administration has achieved.
Spokesman of the team, Abdulmumin Jibrin, noted that it is only in Nigeria that those who destroyed the system will dream of coming back while expressing confidence that President Buhari will win and continue the good works he had started.
