Court Hears Fresh Charge Against Dudafa, Other Nov 15
Court Hears Fresh Charge Against Dudafa, Other Nov 15 – A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has fixed November 15 to entertain arguments on an amended charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, a former aide to erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan.
Justice Mohammed Idris announced the date after listening to submissions of counsel in the suit. Dudafa and one Iwejuo Nna are facing trial on 23 charges bordering on conspiracy to conceal proceeds of crime to the tune of N1.6 billion.
The offences contravene the sections 17(a), 18 (c) and 27 (3) (c) of the EFCC Establishment Act 2004.
They had pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail.
The prosecution had on March 16 closed its case while the defendants filed a no-case submission.
They prayed the court to dismiss the matter, citing the alleged failure of the prosecution to establish any case against them.
Consequently, Justice Idris dismissed their prayer, ordering them to open their defence.
But when the matter came up yesterday, the prosecution counsel, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court of an amended charge, adding that same had been served on defence counsel.
