APC plans to frame Atiku, Saraki for murder, gun running, PDP alleges.
· Raises the alarm over APC’s rigging ploy in Borno IDPs camps
Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have alleged that there are plots to cancel elections in the South-South region and order re-runs of the polls.
This, it said, is to create a situation where security agencies would the deployed massively to the region to rig the elections in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as it happened in Ekiti State.
The leaders also condemned what they described as “the invasion of Nigeria’s political space” by governors from the Niger Republic to campaign for the APC, saying the development is a threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty.
This was revealed at a seminar on the 2019 general elections to sensitize the electorate organized by the E.K. Clark Solidarity for Okowa.
Professor Sam Oyovbaire, who chaired the event, said available information indicated that the ruling party was planning all sorts of strategies to ensure they win the elections at all cost, including scuttling the general elections in the South-South region so as to impose APC candidates.
He noted that it was the first time a foreign government and high-level entourage would freely enter the country to campaign for a ruling party.
Oyovbaire said such open interference in the nation’s electoral process by a foreign government was a strange development that is sending wrong signals about the presidency’s desperation.
Other PDP leaders who spoke at the election lecture with the theme: Free, Fair and Credible Polls: Panacea for Stable Delta State are, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who was represented by Commissioner for Economic Planning, Kingsley Emu, Professor G.G. Darah, Benjamin Okumagba, Simeon Efenudu, Major Saliba Mukoro (rtd.), Pius Sinebe and Adaku Chukwuma, among others.
However, the PDP and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) have raised a fresh alarm about plots to frame up Atiku Abubakar and Senate President Bukola Saraki on trumped-up charges of gun running and murder.
In separate statements issued by their spokesmen, Kola Ologbondiyan and Ikenga Ugochinyere, they alleged that some criminal elements had been contracted to use the vehicles of PDP leaders to cause mayhem and pandemonium by firing into gatherings in parts of the country.
“We condemn this heinous plot as an extreme act of desperation. The objective and goals of this country, as laid down by its founding fathers, demonstrate unity, national cohesion, and economic prosperity for our nation,” they said.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, has raised the alarm over APC’s plot to rig elections in nine Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Borno State.
He said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had disclosed that the camps are located in Maiduguri metropolis, Gambouru and Rann, a border town with the Niger Republic.
He stated this while addressing party supporters and stakeholders during the ongoing presidential campaigns in Maiduguri.
“They plan to carry this out with over 43,000 IDPs in Maiduguri metropolis and Gambouru, a border town with Cameroon,” he said.
He told supporters in Damaturu and Maiduguri that the party was privy to a credible intelligence, adding: The intelligence report indicated that the APC is plotting to use the IDP camps to manipulate the polls in the state.
