APC may sanction Amosun over disruption of Ogun rally.
· UPC, Igbo group back Buhari
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun of masterminding the attack on President Muhammadu Buhari and other party leaders during its presidential campaign rally in the state.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the party hinted that it would sanction Amosun and other perpetrators of the act immediately after the general elections.
Noting that it will not condone indiscipline, indiscretion and anti-party activities from any party member no matter how highly placed, it stressed that party supremacy and discipline remains binding on all members.
“The APC is known for discipline, justice, fairness, and equality hence any plan to destroy what this party stands for will be rejected. No individual will be allowed to put his personal and selfish interests ahead of the wishes of the people of Ogun and elsewhere,” it stated.
However, the United Peoples Congress (UPC) has explained why the party endorsed Buhari as its presidential candidate in the February 16 election.
It said it adopted the President after consultation and search for the best national figure.
UPC North West Chairman, Ibrahim Balarabe Gaya, told journalists in Kano that the party took the decision in the conviction that President Buhari has all it takes to salvage Nigeria and make it great again.
Ibrahim, who is also Kano State gubernatorial candidate under the UPC platform, said the decision to adopt Buhari as its candidate was born out of its belief in his concern and strides for a better Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Coalition of Igbo Youth Organisations for Buhari (CIYOB) has justified its support for the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.
It defended its stance during a media briefing in Enugu, ahead of their mega rally on Thursday, February 14, 2019, saying it stood by President Buhari in Saturday’s election.
Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the rally, Alex Okemiri, told journalists that Ndigbo have every reason to support Buhari going by assurances that the zone would produce Nigeria’s President in 2023.
