Anchor University Introduces 14 Degree Courses – In less than 18 months of academic activities, the management of Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos, has introduced 14 degree courses in its undergraduate programme.
The vice-chancellor, Prof. Joseph Afolayan, told journalists yesterday in Lagos that the programmes were in line with the school’s determination to deepen its heritage and offer competitive courses that would attract more students.
The new programmes include information technology, physics with electronics, biotechnology, industrial chemistry, geology, applied geophysics, international relations, banking and finance, French, chemistry, biology, mathematics, physics and computer science.
Anchor was established in 2017 by the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, with 15 programmes in the faculties of humanities, social and management sciences and natural and applied sciences.
With 300 students currently, the school can accommodate as much as 2,000 new students with full-time residency, including 50 students from each of the new programmes.
Afolayan noted that the limited number was to ensure admission of candidates the university’s facilities and teaching staff could serve, in order to resolve their peculiar problems.
The VC said that the programmes, in addition to extra-curricular activities in the campus, would ensure that students were prepared to leave the university to compete courageously with their peers from other parts of the world.
“As part of our drive to instill training that boasts of the best touches around the world, and one that is reputable globally, we have spent the last 18 months crossing the seas and oceans to attract the best brains to our campus and close notable deals that should make us a worthy citadel among reputable institutions.
“Our workforce, both administrative and academic, continuously undergoes training to enable the delivery of the kind of services capable of sustaining the vision and mandate of the university, hence we are certain about where we are heading, and we will count no effort too big to exceed this expectation.”
Afolayan, who reiterated the need for technology in advancing learning experiences and development, said that the school was poised to instill creativity and entrepreneurship in the students to ensure self-reliance.
