ActionAid Tasks Govt, Others On Women, Child Abuse
ActionAid Tasks Govt, Others On Women, Child Abuse – The Country Director, Actionaid Nigeria, Ene Obi has challenged the government, corporate organisations and individuals to check the rising abuse and molestation of women and children in the country.
She spoke yesterday in Lokoja during the sensitisation on the Kogi State Action Plan for Peace and Security of Women and Children organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development (PIBCID) and Action aid Nigeria.
Represented by the Acting Coordinator, Humanitarian and Resilience Unit of the organisation, the country director pointed out that women and children had become endangered species amid concerted efforts by stakeholders to end the menace. She stressed the need for government at all levels to take proactive measures in ending violence against this vulnerable set of persons.
Obi said: “The fight against abuse of women and children should be a collective effort as women are the catalysts for nation-building.”
The ActionAid Nigeria official called on women to see the sensitisation as a call to duty, urging Nigerians to read the document very well for the peace and security of women and children.
She listed abuses in recent times to include the rape of Ochanya by her stepfather and his son, leading to her death from the complications of the dastardly act.
“There are many other stories. Mothers and daughters are being molested and abused daily,” she added.
